Strep A Group virus – guidance for parents

The news of the increased occurrence of Strep A Group virus this year in young children has alarmed many parents.

As a nursery we have access to a wealth of information provided by the NHS and local authority services. We have collated the best of what we have to provide this information guide for parents to help make informed decisions on the care of your child should they show any symptoms.

If in doubt always consult a healthcare professional such as your local pharmacy, NHS 111 or your GP.

Scarlet Fever

An informational post on symptoms and what to look out for.

The first signs of Scarlet fever can be flu-like, including a high temperature, a sore throat and swollen neck glands (a large lump on the side of your neck). A rash appears 12 to 48 hours later.
The rash is often described as bright red, and looks like small, raised bumps starting on the chest and tummy. In people of colour ‘red coloured’ may not be accurate; it may be flesh coloured along with the classic sandpapery appearance. You will always be able to feel the rash.

A white coating also appears on the tongue. This peels leaving the tongue red, swollen and covered in little bumps (called Strawberry tongue). The rash does not appear on the face but the cheeks may be red.

We are an Award Winning Nursery

We are proud to announce we are an Award Winning Nursery!

On Saturday 19th November 2022 the senior management team at Beeches Park Day Nursery and our sister nursery The Old Forge went to London to the 20th Annual NMT Nursery Awards.

As finalists in two exciting categories:

  1. Individual Nursery
  2. Kids Cooking & Nutritional Education

We are excited to announce that we won the Kids Cooking & Nutritional Education. Healthy eating and giving the children at nursery the very best nutritional start in life is something that we are extremely passionate about and we are so proud to be recognised for our hard work.

Award Winning Team at the NMT Awards

Across the rooms at nursery we offer nutritional learning experiences such as cooking in the rooms, growing and caring for vegetables in the greenhouse and activities on how to live healthy and active lives. Our food menu is the culmination of years of experience gained by our Catering Manager, Kate. Under her careful guidance all our meals are nutritionally balanced and feature in excess of 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Becoming an Award Winning Nursery is just the start of our journey as we strive to become the best nursery setting we can be.

Our new electric minibus has arrived

We are delighted to announce that we have taken delivery of a new electric nursery minibus.

Electric Minibus

Moving to electric has enabled us to reduce our carbon emissions in and around the nursery and local area in line with our Eco-Schools and environmental initiatives. Branded with the nursery bears the van is certainly eye-catching and our Pre-School children were delighted to be amongst the first to try it out with a visit to the local park.

With 9-seats and a large boot the Vauxhall Vivaro-e has plenty of space for our children on the school run and for us to take our nursery children out for trips which they are very excited about.

Flu vaccines Winter 2022/23

Flu Vaccines

Information on flu vaccines to help keep you and your family well this winter

Having a flu vaccine if you are eligible and able to have it, is an important way to help protect yourself, your family and those you have contact with from flu infection. It is expected there will be high levels of flu germs circulating this year so, it is particularly important to take up the offer of flu vaccines. This will help reduce the risk of illness within your family.

GP’s will again be inviting all 2 and 3 year old children to have a flu vaccination. This vaccination, like all other routine childhood vaccinations is free, so you do not need to pay.

More information is available here Protecting your child against flu; Information for parents and carers (publishing.service.gov.uk) with other languages available here Flu vaccination for children: leaflets and posters – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

For more general information about which adults and children are eligible for the flu vaccine see here The flu vaccination. Who should have it and why. Winter 2022 to 2023 (publishing.service.gov.uk)

Flu Vaccines Information for Pregnant women

For any parents/carers that are pregnant, see https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/vaccinations/

Vaccines are available to help to protect both mother and baby. Complications from infection are more likely in pregnancy, as those who are pregnant are not able to fight off infection easily. More information is available in The flu vaccination. Who should have it and why. Winter 2022 to 2023 (publishing.service.gov.uk)

If you have any queries about the information above please speak to your GP or other healthcare professionals who support you.

We are Award Nominated!

Exciting news!

Beeches Park Day Nursery has been award-nominated in two categories at the annual NMT (Nursery Management Today) Awards 2022.  This is the first time we have been recognised nationally as a nursery, and we are so proud of our amazing nursery team and all they achieve.

The categories we are nominated in are:

  • Individual Nursery
Awarded to a nursery that has, in the view of the judges, created the very best environment to promote the highest levels of childcare, staff morale, and business performance.
  • Kids Cooking & Nutrition Education Award
Good nutrition is essential during childhood, as it is a time of development and increased activity. This award will recognise the best programme for teaching children to cook and learn about nutrition. The judges will be looking for a nursery setting that has demonstrated exceptional commitment in giving children an enjoyable introduction to healthy food and food education.

The ceremony will take place in November, in London.
